More than 6,000 runners conquer Hapalua Half Marathon

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Over 6,000 runners woke up at the crack of dawn to conquer the 2024 Hapalua Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile race that would take runners from Ala Moana, through Waikiki, Diamond Head, Kahala, and ended at Kapiolani Park.

Runners took their place at the starting line at 6 a.m. Sunday morning. As they crossed the finish line, they were greeted with cheering, medals, and freshly made malasadas.

Jacob Thomson was first to cross the finish line, clocking in a time of one hour, four minutes, and 57 seconds. Thomson is a professional athlete from the mainland and was the fastest male in the race.

Taking home the title of fastest female for the Hapalua was Calli Thackary. Thackary finished with a time of one hour, 13 minutes and 24 seconds. She will now go on to represent Great Britain in the Paris Olympics.

Clocking in at one hour, 12 minutes and 11 seconds was Cosmo Brossy, who took home the title as the fastest Hawaii male.

Marissa Kunsch claimed the title of the fastest Hawaii female with a time of one hour, 26 minutes and 36 seconds.

Officials said more than 1,900 participants were visitors to Hawaii.
