Holmdel H.S. 2024 Girls Lacrosse Preview

HOLMDEL, NJ -- The Holmdel girls lacrosse team will open its season on Thursday, April 4 at Monmouth Regional in Tinton Falls.

The Hornets will be under the direction of a new coach, Anna Ackerson, after the program endured a 7-12 season last spring.

"I have a lot of confidence and high expectations for this team this season," Ackerson said. "Players have really been dedicated and working hard in the off-season."

Returning from last year's team are senior attack/midfielder Angie Petriello, senior middie/defender Jaimie DeCicco, senior midfielder Ashleigh Peregine, junior attack/middie Claudia Diaz senior goalie Faith Samaan.

Diaz finished with 18 goals and 21 assists, and Petriello and Peregine each scored 15 goals last season, DeCicco had eight goals and a team-leading 69 ground balls, and Samaan was the starting goalie last year and made 181 saves.

"Our energy is amazing and we have a really talented group of athletes across all years," Ackerson said. "I like to focus on one game at a time and adjust to our opponent's strengths and weaknesses."

Ackerson looks forward to seeing what incoming freshman players Sunny Betz (M/D), Charlotte Wall (M/A) and Maria Wall (D) can provide.

"My main goal is to create a strong team dynamic, a great team culture, and to bring up athletes as leaders both on and off the field, the wins will follow," Ackerson said.
