A 23-year-old man was arrested just after midnight Friday after police said he stabbed another man on LPGA Boulevard in the Holly Hill area, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

Skylar Bigham was charged with aggravated battery, tampering with evidence, possession of methamphetamine and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

The incident happened Thursday night. According to body camera footage and a press release from the sheriff's office, after a deputy heard "the 911 call in real time around 9:11 p.m.," he located the victim and provided "emergency medical treatment of a life-threatening stab wound to the chest."

The victim had an approximately 1-inch puncture wound; he was transported to Halifax Health hospital "where he required emergency surgery, but was expected to survive."

While they were treating the victim, deputies on the scene "were also able to gather and disseminate information about the suspect."

Bigham had fled the area on a bicycle when officers arrived; however, "he was located just after midnight by an officer with the Holly Hill Police Department," who found him riding his bicycle near the 800th block of Ridgewood Avenue.

"It was determined Bigham had been using a police scanner app to listen to law enforcement radio traffic in an effort to avoid capture," the sheriff's office stated.

A sheriff's office deputy searched Bigham, who informed him of a "folded piece of aluminum foil" in his left front shorts pocket, according to the affidavit. A field test kit tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Bigham and the victim were acquainted, according to police — both residents of camps in the woods near the area on Mason Avenue and Bill France Boulevard.

"According to interviews with witnesses, the stabbing stemmed from an argument over a woman that both the defendant and victim dated," police added.

Bigham is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $29,500 bond.
