Responders extinguish PADNOS fire after several hours

A commercial fire at PADNOS in downtown Holland was extinguished around 5 p.m. Saturday, June 3.

HOLLAND — A commercial fire at PADNOS in downtown Holland was extinguished around 5 p.m. Saturday, June 3, according to the Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Services.

Pine Avenue reopened to traffic, and responders thanked operators at the recycling plant for aiding fire crews. For a time, nearby residents were asked to remain in their homes with their windows and doors closed.

The fire began in the early afternoon. HDPS Fire Services posted around 1:30 p.m. the fire was ongoing in one of the recycling center's scrap metal piles. It took several hours to extinguish.

It's not the first time there's been a scrap fire at PADNOS. In June 2020, three fire stations responded to reports of smoke near the intersection of Pine Avenue and Seventh Street. That fire also took several hours to extinguish with aid from company operators.
