A body discovered last week along the shoreline just outside Hilo Bay on the Big Island has been identified as that of a visitor from California.

The Hawai‘i Police Department says the victim was identified as Clifford Edward Myers Sr. of Van Nuys, Calif. Preliminary results of an autopsy performed March 16 did not show signs of foul play; however, final results are pending toxicology and additional forensic testing.

The circumstances surrounding Myers being on the Big Island is under investigation. Police report that he arrived about one week before his death.

Shortly after 6 a.m. March 14, officers with the department’s South Hilo Patrol and personnel with the Hawai’i Fire Department responded to the shoreline just west of the Bayshore Towers condominium and apartment complex after a caller reported observing a body at water’s edge. The Fire Department chopper immediately located Myers’ lifeless body and brought it to higher ground.
