A Hilo woman is facing several class A felony drug charges after she was reportedly found with methamphetamine, oxycodone and heroin earlier this month.

Julissa Herrera

Thirty-three-year-old Julissa Herrera was charged with first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, four counts of third-degree posession of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia. Charges stem from an incident on March 10 where the indictment indicates she attempted to distribute over 1/8 ounce or more of methamphetamine.

Herrera is in custody in lieu of $60,000 bail. She is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in Hilo Circuit Court on Monday.

The most serious offense, Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree is a class A felony and carries a penalty of either a 20-year prison term or 10 years probation and up to two years in jail.

Herrera has been charged with felony drug-related crimes in the past. In 2018, the 33-year-old was charged with class C felony offenses related to the promotion of a dangerous drug. Those charges were dismissed in 2021 after the judge granted the prosecutor’s request to not prosecute.
