A 6-year-old Hilmar boy was taken by air ambulance to a Central Valley children’s hospital after crashing his dirt bike Saturday afternoon at the La Grange Off-Highway Vehicle Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened about 4:50 p.m. when the child fell off his Kawasaki 65 motorcycle, which then rolled over his leg, causing a femoral fracture, CHP Modesto area spokesman Officer Tom Olsen said Sunday. The boy was wearing a helmet.

The crash was on the small track near the entrance to the OHV park, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Luke Schwartz said.

Oak Valley Medical treated the child at the scene, the Modesto Fire Department reported. The boy was taken by CALSTAR helicopter to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
