Photos: Final sections of Northwestern’s Ryan Field are demolished in Evanston
Demolition of Northwestern University’s 98-year-old Ryan Field began on Feb. 16. The new Ryan Field is part of a $480 million donation from the family of Patrick and Shirley Ryan that was the largest in school history. The school has said the stadium would seat 35,000, down more than 12,000 from the current Ryan Field, and feature a canopy designed to keep noise and light focused on the field. It would include cutting-edge technology and scoreboards, as well as concessions with food from local restaurants, and would achieve Gold LEED certification. Northwestern will play the majority of its home football games next season at its lakefront soccer and lacrosse facility. the school is also in discussions with other Chicago-area stadiums to host games. The Wildcats have played at Wrigley Field three times since 2010, including a loss to Iowa last year on a last-second field goal.

Central hands Lake Forest first loss of the season
GEORGETOWN, Del.– Sussex Central defeated Lake Forest in a final score of 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Central would be the ones to strike first as they would take an early 1-0 lead on the Spartans. Madge Layfield would make it a 3-0 game with a 2 run home-run. Lake would answer back in the next inning with a solo homer from Bayli Glanden to make it 3-1.
4th River Forest Bike Exchange brings out the community
This year’s River Forest Bike Exchange was the most successful one to date, organizers said. River Forest families came out bright and early on a Saturday morning to participate not only in finding their kids new bikes for the summer but also to building a stronger sense of community.
New Trier Defeats La Salette in Illinois
New Trier pulled off a big result in Illinois, beating Notre Dame de la Salette in a midweek clash 22-7. This was New Trier's opening league game and a strong showing for the school team. It was a wet day with steady rain, and ball retention was difficult, so both teams tried to keep the ball among the forwards to control it.

The Boilermakers (21-20, 8-6 Big Ten) have won all but one conference series, going 0-3 in their Big Ten opener against Michigan. ETHS baseball: Grimm’s tale doesn’t have happy ending
Braden Grimm pitched the game of his life Thursday at Duke Childs Field. But all the Evanston baseball team had to show for it was another loss to New Trier. The senior right-hander hurled a one-hitter over the first five innings and took a 4-1 lead into the seventh. Then, even with rain pelting down, the bullpen couldn’t put out the fire, and New Trier rallied for a 5-4 Central Suburban League South division victory.
In-state rival Northwestern finishes sweep of Illinois softball
Another warm and sunny day in Illinois (16-25, 3-10) turned gloomy with a chance of rain and even canceled Illinois baseball’s matchup on Tuesday afternoon. Softball was more fortunate, playing two and a half hours north of campus in Evanston. With first pitch moved up an hour, they were able to complete their game against the Northwestern Wildcats (27-8, 13-1).
