(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in Highland, Indiana, are hoping to find a thief who came in the night to uproot a couple hundred dollars’ worth of the town's flowers.

It was about 10:15 last Saturday night when HIghland Police Cmdr. John Banasiak says security video showed a woman in a light-colored SUV pull up to a town planter and take a bunch of flowers and plants.

Banasiak concedes it's not the "crime of the century."

"Theft is theft, and it's still wrong," he adds. "You might understand if somebody is stealing, shoplifting food to get by to sustain life for themselves or their kids. But obviously this is not a necessity in life."

There have been lots of comments on the town's Facebook page, but Banasiak says no tips yet: "We just hope we can get some restitution for the town of Highland."
