Philo tops Maysville, shares MVL title as Lincicome ties record
NEWTON TOWNSHIP — A strong running game and a stout defense — trademarks of Dirk Lincicome's tenure at Philo. Both elements played vital roles in Friday's 27-13 win over Maysville, as the Electrics' head coach tied the legendary Sam Hatfield with 106 career wins on the Philo sidelines. The Electrics earned a share of the Muskingum Valley League Big School Division title with Sheridan and Tri-Valley, as all three finished 4-1. Lincicome will also have a chance to break the record in Week 11, as playoff pairings are announced on Sunday. "Sam Hatfield is a legend and a man who I respect beyond words," Lincicome said. "This is something I never dreamed of. There's no comparison between me and him, including his years of service where he coached three teams and served as AD (athletic director) at the same time. "I'm just fortunate to be here and lucky enough to have a lot of good players and coaches on my side. I'm just carrying the torch for the next coach." Buchtel athletic director/football coach placed on administrative leave
Akron Public Schools has placed Buchtel athletic director and football head coach Bryan Williams on administrative leave. Williams did not coach in last week's game when host Buchtel beat Garfield 14-6 in overtime at Tim Flossie Stadium, and he is not set to be on the sidelines at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, when Buchtel plays East in a Week 10 game at Kenmore Stadium. " Akron Public Schools can confirm that the athletic director and head football coach at Buchtel High School has been placed on administrative leave," APS assistant director of marketing and communications Joanne Isaac said in an email to the Akron Beacon Journal. "As this is a personnel matter, the District will not comment further on the circumstances or details. To ensure continuity for our student-athletes and football program, Tahj Dent has served as interim head coach and will continue to serve in that role pending further notice. The District remains focused on supporting our students and maintaining normal team operations." Buchtel enters Week 10 with a record of 2-7 overall and 2-2 in the City Series after it had to forfeit four wins last week before playing Garfield. APS self-reported to the OHSAA that North

Licking Valley seniors wrap up second straight 10-0 regular season
ZANESVILLE ― There's no turning back now for Licking Valley after a second consecutive unbeaten regular season. The Panthers' veteran coaching staff made sure there was no letdown after the big win against Granville, when they took the John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium turf on Oct. 23. Valley (10-0, 5-0) spoiled senior night for Zanesville with a dominant 48-7 win that wrapped up a third consecutive Licking County League-Buckeye Division title. "We had to take care of business," said senior wideout-defensive back Brandt Lichtenauer. "The coaches rode our tails all week and pushed us harder than we thought we were going to be pushed." The Panthers jumped to a 35-0 halftime lead, forcing a running second-half clock, and never punted as they ended the valiant turnaround season of the Blue Devils (5-5, 2-3), who downed rival Newark and put themselves in playoff position, only to drop the final two games to Watkins Memorial and Valley. That was after ending a 26-game losing streak. "They got hot at the beginning of the season, so we knew this was no easy game," said senior quarterback Brody Rodgers, who threw three touchdown passes, two to favorite target Carter Nethers, and ran for a
