It's been a little over ten years since Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, then just 46 years old, was found dead on the bathroom floor of his New York apartment. A syringe was in his left arm, and he succumbed to acute mixed drug intoxication, including heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and amphetamine. The horrific death, which occurred on February 2, 2014, was ruled an accident.

    A Closer Look

On the day Philip Seymour Hoffman died, the authorities found almost 50 envelopes, labeled “Ace of Spades,” filled with what they believed was heroin. Also discovered were used syringes, prescription drugs, and empty bags that law enforcement suspected were utilized to hold the heroin.

Hoffman was expected to pick up his children that day but didn’t show up. Playwright David Katz and another individual went to the apartment and found Hoffman's lifeless body. The actor was dressed in a T-shirt and shorts with eyeglasses still on his head.

Robert Vineberg, a 57-year-old musician, was arrested in connection with Hoffman’s demise. He was one of four individuals detained later in Manhattan.

    The Caliber of His Talent

Philip Seymour Hoffman was nominated for Academy Awards four times, winning in 2006 for his Best Actor portrayal of writer Truman Capote in Capote.

The other movies for which he earned nominations were Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt, and The Master.
