Matt and Becca Hamilton headed to World Mixed Doubles Championships in Sweden
Matt and Becca Hamilton will once again be representing the United States of America in curling. The pair qualified for the 2024 World Mixed Doubles Championships after winning the 2024 Mixed Doubles National Championship in Eden Prairie, Minnesota on Tuesday, Mar. 5. The brother and sister from McFarland won four-straight elimination games to reach the finals. In the finals, the Hamiltons defeated the 2023 World Champions in Corey Thiesse and Korey Dropkin to win the championship. In their match against Thiesse and Dropkin, the Hamiltons trailed by one in the eighth end. Becca Hamilton then scored two after a shot knocked out a Dropkin/Thiesse stone to win the match. The 2024 World Mixed Doubles Championships will be held in Ostersund, Sweden from Saturday, April 20 to Saturday, April 27.

Anika Mueller named honorable mention on girls hockey all-conference team
Freshman goaltender Anika Mueller earned honorable mention on the Badger Conference All-Conference Team for the Stoughton Icebergs. Mueller, a student from Stoughton, recorded 1,195 saves in net for the Icebergs for a 93% save rate. Playing in all 21 games, Mueller recorded over 1,000 minutes on the ice and recorded three shutouts.

A second-half run in favor of Fort Atkinson doomed the Spartans’ chances of cutting into the Blackhawks’ lead as the McFarland boys basketball team was eliminated 63-41 by Fort Atkinson in the regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Fort Atkinson High School. Fort Atkinson, the No. 8 seed, led 28-25 at halftime against McFarland, the No. 9 seed. By the 12:42 mark in the second half, Fort Atkinson’s lead ballooned to 44-27, aided by a 17-0 run at one point. For McFarland, freshman Eli Krueger led the team with 15 points. Junior Ben Forbes added seven points, seniors Andrew Kelley and Braylan Roder both recorded six points, junior Brady Ochalla chipped in four points and senior Kaden Meinholdt contributed three points.
