Three Roadhouse Taverns in Park City
I love walking into a bar and feeling like someone might hit me with a pool cue because of my opinion on Major League Baseball’s designated hitter rule (it’s terrible, by the way). Maybe I’m hoping to find Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott working as coolers while Jake and Elwood Blues croon from behind a screen of chicken wire. Maybe I’m just looking for some grit now that Park City has gone all in with luxurious pseudo-cowboy vibes. Whatever my motivation, I toured Summit County’s roadhouse taverns searching for authenticity and returned with an epic expense report in the name of “journalism.” Remember your Swayze: “All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside.” One more rule that Swayze’s James Dalton didn’t have on the list in the 1989 film Road House—take a ride share.

Park City parties draw attention of police: Music ‘thumping,’ graduation gathering ‘going wrong’
The Park City Police Department in early June responded to a series of reports of parties, including at least one thrown to celebrate a graduation. The cases appeared to involve complaints about issues that are typical when there is a party in a neighborhood, such as loud noise. The number of reports recently, though, was notable as Park City emerges from the spring shoulder season. Parties and noise complaints typically become more prevalent during busier times of the tourism calendar. The police often log cases as suspected disturbing the peace.
Heat wave fuels flooding concerns in eastern Summit County
The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City this week warned of dangerous heat with temperatures reaching highs of 20 degrees above normal. The unseasonably warm temperatures hit the triple digits in some places, though the Park City area approached the mid 80s. Still, the heat was enough to raise...

Five Local Hikes Worthy of an Après Toast
While trekking or strolling along a mountain trail is its own reward, sometimes the promise of a pint (or a Shirley Temple) rounds out the experience. Here are a handful of view-laden hikes paired with nearby watering holes. Note: Given Park City’s altitude, remember to hydrate on- and off-trail.
