NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A 16-year-old driver rear-ended another vehicle on I-24 East near Lickton Pike early Saturday morning. The crash left one dead and five people injured.

According to Metro Police, the teen was traveling east in a 2012 Lexus 250 on I-24 around 3:30 a.m. Officials say that the teen was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear of a Honda CRV, causing the CRV to spin off the road and run into a wood line.

The driver of the CRV, Eduardo Tovar-Carrizales, 47, of Hendersonville, and the 46-year-old front-seat passenger sustained minor injuries.

A 64-year-old rear passenger was transported to Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rosa Delia Torres, 62, died at the scene.

Officials say that none of the rear seat passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The 16-year-old Lexus driver and his 16-year-old male passenger were transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All eastbound lanes were closed in the area following the crash. They have since reopened.

The teen driver of the Lexus will be charged with vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault upon his release from the hospital.
