Michigan Clean Water Corps Leads 2024 effort in lake monitoring education
CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. (WLUC) - Protecting lakes like Fortune Lake in Crystal Falls is the Michigan Clean Water Corps organization’s main goal. The organization held its annual Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program on Saturday. Director Jo Latimore said the purpose of the program is to help volunteers monitor indicators of water quality in their lakes. She said she’s teaching attendees how to do things like measuring the clarity of the water.

Republic, MI - Mary Y. Davis, age 80, of 9348 Willow Dr. Republic, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at her home in Republic. Mary was born in Pulaski, VA on November 21, 1943, a daughter of the late Maggie M. (Vaughn) and Curtis B. Williams. She had resided in Republic since 1964 where she made a home and raised her six children. Mary was devoted to her family. There was hardly a day that went by that she didn't call “just to make sure you're OK” and let you know “I love you.” (WLUC)

Shari R. Parker, age 62, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024. She was born on July 25, 1961, in Merrill, WI, the daughter of the late Winston and Shirley (Cheshure) Woodward. She graduated from the University of Houston in 1990. Shari also earned her PhD in bilingual education from Capella University. (WLUC)

Muriel F. Willman, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Crystal Falls, Michigan, on May 12, 2024, after a day surrounded by her closest family and friends. Muriel was born on October 29, 1928, to the late Harold and Frances (Keenan) Waldron. She married Gordon Willman originally of Felch, Michigan, and together they raised four sons: Jon, Brian, Gary and Rob Willman. (WLUC)
