HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Chester Rose, a basketball standout at Hazard High School, died Saturday morning at his home in Richmond.

He was 75 years old.

At Hazard High School, Rose advanced to the Boys’ Sweet 16 three times: 1964, 1965 and 1966.

Following high school, Rose played two seasons at Eastern Kentucky University.

On Thursday, visitation was held for Rose at the Hal Rogers Center in Hazard where family and friends gathered to remember his life, his legacy, and the impact he had on so many lives.

“He cared so much about impacting young kids lives,” said Chester Rose’s son Tony Rose. “He did that at Hazard in Perry County as well as Madison County and the city of Richmond so he’s just a legend in everybody’s eyes and so many people cared for him. He’s going to be truly missed.”

There will also be visitations in Richmond on Friday, March 31 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 1 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the East Side Community Church, with the funeral immediately following.
