⚾ Shorthanded Larks run-ruled in Nebraska

GERING, Neb. - The shorthanded Hays Larks, playing with only nine position players and a handful of pitchers to start the season, were run-ruled 13-1 by the Western Nebraska Pioneers Friday at Oregon Trail Park Stadium.

The Pioneers scored five runs in the bottom of the first then added eight in the second in the game which called after five innings.

The Larks got their lone run in the third when Garrett Gruell reached on an error which scored Austin Stracener from second.

North Dakota State's Carson Jacobs (0-1) made the start and suffered the loss. The former TMP-Marian product allowed 12 earned runs on six hits with eight walks and four strikeouts over two innings.

Pima Community College sophomore Dayne Pengelly pitched two scoreless innings of relief allowing only one hit with four strikeouts and no walks.

Tennessee freshman catcher Peyton Ebbing had two of the Larks four hits.

UP NEXT

The Larks close out the two-game series in Gering Saturday at at 7:35 p.m. CDT. They then head back to North Platte to play the Plainsmen Sunday.
