VALLEY CENTER – The Hays High softball team was outscored 27-2 Friday and lost both ends of their doubleheader with the Valley Center Hornets by scores of 19-0 and 8-2.

The Indians are now 1-2 on the season.

Game 1: Valley Center 19, Hays 0 (3 innings)
After scoring six runs in the bottom of the first, the Hornets scored 13 in the second in the lopsided win.

Riley Dreher suffered the loss in the circle and had the only it of the game for Hays.

Seven of the Hornets 18 hits went for extra bases including five doubles, a triple and a home run.

Game 2: Valley Center 8, Hays 2
The Hornets scored single runs in the first, second and third innings then added two in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead.

The Indians scored their first run of the doubleheader in the sixth on a double play. Valley Center answered with three in the bottom of the frame. Hays would add another run in the top of the seventh on an error.

Aubrey Thomas went the distance in the circle and took the loss allowing eight runs (three earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Thomas went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Morgen Berry also doubled.
