🥎 Monarchs drop two to Holcomb

HAYS – The TMP-Marian softball team lost twice to Holcomb Thursday at the Monarch Softball Complex. The Longhorns won game one 16-4 then took the second contest 9-8.

The Monarchs dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Game 1: Holcomb 16, TMP-Marian 4
The Longhorns scored in every inning except the second and led 16-1 before the Monarchs plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Monarchs committed five errors which resulted in nine unearned runs.

Maddie Augustine went the distance allowing 16 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with six strikeouts and seven walks.

Four of the Monarchs six hits went for extra bases. Halle Dreiling homered in the sixth. Hannah Garcia, Jaci VonLintel and Brooke Koeningsman all had doubles.

Game 2: Holcomb 9, TMP-Marian 8
The Longhorns rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead then held on for the one-run victory.

After the Longhorns scored three in the top of the first, TMP-Marian answered with six runs in the second. S Allen drove in the first run with a one-out double to center. Two batters later, Hannah Garcia drove in a run with a single. Brooke Koeningsman’s double scored two to put the Monarchs up 4-3. Jaci VonLintel closed out the scoring with a two-run homer left.

The Monarchs led 7-4 before Holcomb plated two in the fourth then took the lead with the three-run sixth. They took advantage of two errors to lead the bases then took the lead on a two-run single.

TMP scored a run in the bottom of the seventh following a Jaci VonLintel leadoff double and groundout.

Augustine allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

VonLintel went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in two. She and Nicole Schumacher both homered.
