Bicyclist hit by car, killed in Hayden

HAYDEN, Idaho -- A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car in Hayden Wednesday morning.

Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of W. Lancaster Road and Warren Street around 7:45 a.m.

Deputies and members of the Northern Lakes Fire Department provided medical treatment to the bicyclist, who was eventually taken to Kootenai Health.

The bicyclist, identified as 83-year-old Ernest V. Miller of Hayden, later died in the hospital.

Based on evidence and witness statements, deputies say it appeared Miller failed to stop when turning onto Lancaster Road, and he was hit by a car traveling westbound.

Deputies say impairment and speed do not appear to be factors, but the investigation is ongoing.
