Proposed new spending bumps 2023-24 county budget deficit up to $2.7 million
When Hawkins County Commissioners receive the second draft of the proposed 2023-24 budget on June 20, it will show a pending deficit of $2.73 million thanks to new spending added during Tuesday’s budget workshop. Fundraising supper and singing set for woman in need of liver transplant

Shooting Hunger raises $2,700 for Family Resource Center
Representatives from Tennessee Farm Bureau, Tennessee Farmers Cooperative and Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st donated $2,700 to the Family Resource Center to provide backpack meals for hungry kids in Hawkins County. The funds were raised through Shooting Hunger sporting clays shoots. Since 2015, Shooting Hunger events have provided more than 2 million meals to hungry Tennesseans. Learn more at www.shootinghunger.com. The Hawkins County Family Resource Center is a referral center for family, school, child and parent needs. All services are free to families with children in the Hawkins County school system. The weekend backpack program helps provide food for children who need it when they aren’t able to access meals at school.

The Thunder Bunnies walked away with the first-place trophy.
