MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Southern Miss baseball will be out to score a Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in its inaugural season in the league when it takes on Louisiana in the championship game Sunday.

The Golden Eagles, having won their first two games at Riverwalk Stadium, suffered a loss against Appalachian State on Saturday morning, putting them on the brink of elimination. But USM (40-17) responded with an 11-1 victory over the Mountaineers to reach the title game.

Louisiana (40-21) took the difficult path to the championship game after falling to the losers bracket early. To qualify for the championship game, the Ragin' Cajuns upset top-seeded Coastal Carolina twice Saturday, beating the Chanticleers 7-3 and 4-1.

Southern Miss and Louisiana met in the final regular-season series of the season, with USM winning two out of three games.
