HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Officers surrounded the state capitol building after Hartford police told Connecticut State Capitol Police that a person claimed to be there with a gun.

The person, who was potentially emotionally distressed, had threatened to kill those who were inside, according to capitol police.

Officers could be seen on Tuesday afternoon outside of the building out of what Capitol Police said is an “abundance of caution.” K-9s also searched for possible explosives.

Guest access was briefly limited for an hour. Legislative business was not interrupted.

No one has been taken into custody in connection to the threat. The FBI and capitol police continue to investigate the situation.

This is a developing situation and more details will be added as they are made available.
