Even as state lawmakers and Gov. Ned Lamont approach a final budget deal, protestors critical of the spending plan have been rallying at the Capitol.

Hartford police confirm 57 people were arrested Thursday afternoon for stopping traffic on Capitol Ave. by sitting down on the roadway, which had been shut down by police, acting on advance notice of the protest.

The protest was led by SEIU Local 1199, which says the planned state budget falls short in spending on the union's priorities, including wages and healthcare subsidies for long-term care providers and striking group home workers.
