Hartford police will be hosting a gun buyback event on June 3, offering gift cards for unloaded guns that may be turned over anonymously.

The buyback will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the House of Restoration Church at 1665 Main St. in Hartford. All guns should be unloaded and placed in a plastic bag or box, according to the Hartford Police Department.

Gift cards to Stop & Shop will be handed out in exchange for firearms. Residents will receive a $200 gift card for an assault rifle; a $100 gift card for a handgun or revolver; and a $50 gift card for a shotgun or rifle or for any single-shot derringer-style handguns, police said.

Flare guns, pellet or BB guns, ammunition, magazine clips, black-powder weapons and non-working guns may also be turned in but will not be eligible for gift cards, police said.
