TROY Moran was a beloved principal with years of education experience.

The Michigan native tragically died from a heart attack at age 46 on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Who was Hart High School principal Troy Moran?

According to Ocean County Press, Troy Moran began working as the Hart High School principal in Hart, Michigan, in 2021.

He started the Ride with Pride program at the school, "which is an opportunity for law enforcement and schools to come together and build a program promoting safe and positive choices," the outlet states.

"It's basically helping students to make great choices inside school with academics, attendance and behavior but also outside school with drug, tobacco and alcohol prevention and safe driving," Moran said in a 2021 interview, according to the publication.

As part of the program, a car is raffled off to a student at the conclusion of the school year.

Per Ocean County Press, Moran was previously the principal of Montague High School for four years and was also a teacher at Mona Shores school district "for many years."

He was also the high school dean of students and upper elementary school principal at Oakridge Public Schools.

He hailed from Whitehall, Michigan, and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1996 before studying at Western Michigan University, per the outlet.

According to Ocean County Press, Moran died from a heart attack on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at age 46.

"He was out for a run and had a heart attack," Hart Public Schools Superintendent Mark Platt said, per the outlet.

Per WZZM 13, Moran passed away "unexpectedly."

What did Hart High School say after his death?

Hart High School announced Moran's tragic death in a Sunday, April 28, 2024, Facebook post, made by Platt.

"It is with sadness, disbelief and sorrow that I write this post. Yesterday, our friend, colleague and Hart High School Principal, Troy Moran, passed away unexpectedly," Platt wrote, in part.

"If you knew Troy, you know he had an infectious laugh and smile. He was one of those people who you just loved seeing and talking with.

"Troy is a West Michigan native and spent time in multiple districts. The outflow of support from districts across the West Michigan Conference and the WSESD has been tremendous.

"Hart will have school on Monday. Counseling will be available for staff and students. The crisis team is meeting tonight to discuss details and action steps," he continued.

Per Ocean County Press, Platt said he had known Moran for about two decades.

“I've known him for about 20 years, and this is a shocker," " Platt said following Moran's tragic death.

"He was a great guy, a great dad, a great person, and a great principal. This is a tremendous loss," he continued, in part.

Platt said the district's crisis team planned to meet on the evening of Sunday, April 28, and that there would be school on Monday, April 29.

He also said there would be grief counselors available.

"We know for sure that we're going to have school tomorrow (Monday)," Platt said.

"We're going to have grief counselors from the ESD, and other surrounding districts have offered support. We will probably be utilizing all of that for both students and staff."

As Ocean County Press reported, Platt did not "immediately" announce who will fill in as principal for the rest of the school year.

"I want to visit with the staff and get their thoughts on how they want to finish the school year," Platt said.
