Delays coming to Route 33 west of Harrisonburg
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Drivers using Route 33 west of Harrisonburg will need to plan for delays caused by ongoing roadwork. Ken Slack with the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a release that flaggers and pilot trucks will control traffic between Dry Run Road and Switzer Lake Road, the steep winding stretch approaching the West Virginia State line. The work zone is active on weekdays during daylight hours. Depending on the type of work contractors are doing.
JMU police seeing increase in campus scooter thefts
HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The James Madison University Police Department has noticed an increase in scooter thefts on campus over the past week. In an email alert sent to JMU faculty, staff and students, university police said it appeared that people have been cutting locks and taking the scooters at free will. According to the department’s daily crime log for April 2024, there have been seven scooter thefts since Tuesday, April 23, with most of the thefts reported on JMU’s East Campus.

Advocates for Valley Animals and James McHone Jewelry have partnered with the Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA on the auction, with proceeds going directly towards the care and treatment of animals at RHSPCA. Gas prices fall in Harrisonburg, compared to last week
HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Gas prices in Virginia fell more than three cents per gallon in the last week, to an average of 3-48 today. That’s according to a GasBuddy survey of about four-thousand stations across the commonwealth. Prices at the pump are still four-and-a-half cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
Harrisonburg City Public Schools hosting PreK night at ExploreMore
HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg City Public Schools’ VPI (Virginia Preschool Initiative) program is partnering with the ExploreMore Children’s Museum to host a family night at the museum. Update: Suspect in Harrisonburg robbery taken into custody in Pennsylvania
The suspect in a robbery at the 7-Eleven on South Main Street in Harrisonburg on Thursday has been arrested. A news release from the City of Harrisonburg, on behalf of the Harrisonburg Police Department, reported to us Saturday morning that Tevin E. White, 29, from Ama, La., was apprehended in Pennsylvania.

Blue Ridge Area Food Banks asks for donations, volunteers
VERONA, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is encouraging people to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on May 11. Stamp Out Hunger is the nation's largest one-day food collection effort, hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Last year, it collected 115,019 pounds of food.
