Fifth grade teacher named teacher of the year

Harrisonburg City Public Schools has awarded the Lucy Simms Award for the division’s Educator of the Year to Spotswood Elementary School Fifth Grade Teacher Daniella Buenaventura.

During Tuesday evening’s School Board meeting, Jeremy Weaver, the school division’s Director of Human Resources, read a recommendation from former student Greyson Lunsford that captured the essence of the award.

The school division recognized the top teacher from each city school and each one received a $250 check from the Harrisonburg Education Foundation.
