A Harrisburg resident is facing attempted homicide charges after police say he shot a man in the head who was spending the night in his house.
Court documents said a man was shot around 2:54 a.m. May 26 in a home on the first block of Disbrow Street in Harrisburg’s Allison Hill neighborhood.
Michael E. Watlington, 38, forced his way into a bedroom at his Disbrow Street home where a woman and a man were sleeping, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The woman told police she woke the man up and went to her bedroom door to talk to Watlington. Watlington walked into the woman’s room and shot the man one time in the face, court documents said.
The affidavit said the woman ran out of the house, with Watlington behind her. She reportedly told police she saw Watlington throw the gun onto the living room floor as he was heading out of the house.
Surveillance footage showed Watlington leaving the home without the gun in his hands, according to the affidavit.
Court documents said Watlington is prohibited from having a firearm because of a 2000 robbery conviction.
Watlington fled the area before police arrived, the affidavit said. Police were looking for him before he turned himself in hours after the shooting.
Watlington was denied bail and is being held at Dauphin County Prison on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and firearms offenses.
Online court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 12 in front of Judge John Cherry.
