Waller County Precinct 3 deputy constable found dead in his vehicle

Harris County officials are investigating after an off-duty Waller County Precinct 3 deputy constable was found dead in his vehicle.

An investigation is now underway after a sergeant with the Waller County Precinct 3 Constable's Office was found dead inside his vehicle on Thursday night, authorities said. 

According to Assistant Chief Thomas Diaz with the Harris County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Command, they received a call from a concerned citizen in the 12400 block of West Little York. 

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the sergeant dead inside the vehicle.

The sheriff's office said there was no obvious cause of death or signs of foul play. Investigators, along with the medical examiners, will determine the cause and manner of death.

Precinct 3 Constable Herschel Smith said the deputy had been with agency for just over nine months.

"Loved what he did. A man that had courage and had guts. He's going to be missed," Constable Smith said.

The investigation continues.

"We want to express our condolences to our partner agency, Constable Smith, he's got a great reputation in the area, we know him before this, and we're just really heartbroken for him and his family," Assistant Chief Thomas Diaz said.
