A 36-year-old man who police say was involved in an "ongoing dispute" with another man died Thursday after being shot with a rifle, Delaware State Police said.

The victim has been identified as Charles Kupidlowski, of Harrington, according to police.

Troopers were called just after 4:15 p.m. to the 200 block of Reeves Crossing Road near Felton after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Kupidlowski lying in the road with wounds to his upper body. Paramedics tried to treat him, but he died at the scene.

Detectives quickly learned that Kupidlowski had been arguing with 36-year-old Steven Smith, who lives in Centerville, Maryland.

Police said that Smith drove to Reeves Crossing Road to confront the victim and when he arrived, he began shooting at him with a rifle. After the shooting, Smith returned home.

Deputies with the Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, Sheriff’s Office later arrested Smith at his home "without incident," police said. He will be extradited to Delaware to face first-degree murder and weapons charges.

Delaware State Police continues to investigate this shooting. Anyone with information should call 302-741-2729 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
