Pursuit ends in Harrah with one arrested, shot with beanbag gun

The Harrah Police Department has released new information following a police chase on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, Oklahoma County dispatch received a call from someone concerned with the suspect’s wellbeing. The caller told dispatchers that the suspect had a knife and possibly a gun in the car.
The suspect drove westbound on 23rd Street between Harrah and Choctaw before turning around and heading eastbound towards Harrah.
An officer with the Choctaw Police Department started to pursue the suspect, with speeds reaching up to 50 mph during the chase.
An Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputy deployed stop sticks near NE 23rd St. and Luther Rd. The suspect continued driving into Luther with a blown front left tire after hitting the stop sticks.
The suspect came to a stop near NE 10th St. and Harrah Rd. As officers and deputies with multiple agencies attempted to talk the suspect into exiting the vehicle and surrendering, the suspect stepped out of the car with a knife in his hand.
The suspect got back into the car, then got out again and ran toward authorities with the knife in his hand.
A county deputy hit the suspect with a non-lethal round from a bean bag shotgun. The suspect fell to the ground and was quickly arrested at the scene.
EMSA was called to check on the suspect’s condition as a precaution. There were no other reported injuries or damage as a result of the incident.
Police later learned that the suspect may be a veteran who was having a mental health crisis, and say the suspect is now being treated by professionals with the VA.

HARRAH, Okla. ( KFOR ) – Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in a pursuit Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the suspect was believed to be armed with a knife. The vehicle later stopped in the roadway in Harrah.
Shortly after the suspect exited the vehicle, law enforcement took them into custody.
No more information is available as the investigation continues.
