
HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - Shoppers and staff at a Wayne County grocery store were forced to evacuate midday on Friday due to an unfolding police situation.
A tipster calling into WWJ reported that shopping came to a halt when the Kroger located at 20903 Harper Ave. was evacuated around 12:30 p.m. Witnesses say there was a heavy police presence -- including Michigan State Police.
The Harper Woods Police Department confirmed with WWJ's Luke Sloan the the store was cleared out and police are present.
The reason behind the evacuation and heavy police response remains unclear at this time, but WWJ is working to find additional details.
WWJ has not been able to confirm rumors of a bomb threat at the location.
No other information was released at this time.
