Hot with afternoon & evening storms
VERY MUCH. WELL, WE DO WANT TO GET TO METEOROLOGIST LEE SOUTHWICK RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE HAVE AN UPDATE ON ARLENE AND A GOOD UPDATE AT THAT. YES, IT HAS OFFICIALLY WEAKENED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. NOW, WHILE THIS WAS NEVER A CONCERN TO US, IT’S ALWAYS GOOD TO CELEBRATE THESE STORMS FALLING APART. SO, YES, WITH A NEW UPDATE THAT JUST CAME OUT FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER, IT IS NOW A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. IT WAS A TROPICAL STORM, BUT NOW SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ONLY AT 35 MILES AN HOUR. AND SO IT HAS BEEN DOWNGRADED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AND IT IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AND AT SOME POINT LATE TODAY OR MAYBE INTO EARLY TOMORROW, IT WILL BECOME A REMNANT LOW. NOW IT IS HEADING TOWARDS CUBA. BUT BEFORE IT REACHES THERE, IT’S EXPECTED TO TURN MORE TO THE EAST AND HEAD OUT TOWARDS THE BAHAMAS. BUT AGAIN, IT WILL CONTINUE TO FALL APART AS IT DOES SO. SO THE MOST OF THIS IS EXPECTED TO BRING IS PERHAPS SOME HEAVY RAIN TO PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA. RIGHT NOW, SOME HEAVIER RAIN MOVING THAT DIRECTION. BUT YOU CAN SEE HOW DISORGANIZED THIS SYSTEM IS. SO, AGAIN, NOW, ARLENE IS A TROPICAL DEPRESSION FOR US. WE ARE DRY ON RADAR RIGHT NOW. WE MIGHT HAVE SOME MORE RAIN POP UP, THOUGH, THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. TEMPERATURES ARE SITTING IN THE 80S FOR EVERYONE AND WE ARE CONTINUING TO WARM UP QUICKLY. IT FEELS LIKE THE 90S OUT THERE FOR A LOT OF YOU IN COASTAL AREAS 93 FOR IT FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURE IN GALLIANO AND IN GRAND ISLE IN BURAS RIGHT NOW IT FEELS LIKE 95 DEGREES NOW CLOSER TO THE METRO AREA THIS AFTERNOON, HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL WARM UP TO EITHER SIDE OF 91, BUT IT WILL FEEL MORE LIKE THE MIDDLE 90S OUT THERE IN THE AFTERNOON HOURS. HIGHS WILL TALK ABOUT ANYWHERE FROM 88 TO 93 DEGREES. SO AGAIN, EITHER SIDE OF 91, IT WILL BE A HOT DAY TODAY IF YOU GET SOME RAIN, THOUGH, THAT WOULD BRIEFLY COOL YOU DOWN AND WE DO HAVE A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON AND IN THE EVENING. SAME STORY OVER IN BATON ROUGE. SO IF YOU’RE GOING TO WATCH SOME BASEBALL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE GOING TO SEE TWO LANE SCATTERED RAIN COULD BE AROUND. YOU MIGHT WANT A BRIEF SHOWER BECAUSE IT WOULD COOL YOU DOWN OUT OF THE 90S. BUT AGAIN, WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR THUNDERSTORMS, TOO. WE DON’T WANT ANY LIGHTNING WITH THAT. OBVIOUSLY, BY 8:00 FOR THE LSU GAME, SKY SHOULD BE MOSTLY CLEAR. WE SHOULD BE CLEARING OUT A BIT. IT WILL STILL BE WARM THOUGH. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NEAR 82 DEGREES. IT WILL FEEL MORE LIKE THE MIDDLE 80S OUT THERE, THOUGH. LET’S TALK ABOUT THESE RAIN CHANCES. I THINK WE STAY DRY THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS AND THEN IN THE AFTERNOON, SOME SCATTERED RAIN DEVELOPS AGAIN, 2:00 FOR THE LANE GAME IN BATON ROUGE. SOME RAIN AROUND THROUGHOUT THE GAME. WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON IT. SCATTERED RAIN ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND INTO COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. BUT AGAIN, BY THE EVENING HOURS, WE START TO SEE THAT RAIN DROP BACK AND WE START TO CLEAR OUT AND IT WILL BE A MOSTLY CLEAR NIGHT. I JUST CAN’T RULE OUT A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS OUT THERE NOW WITH THE MOSTLY CLEAR NIGHT. IT WILL BE GOOD TO SEE THE FULL STRAWBERRY MOON TONIGHT. LOWS WILL BE IN THE 60S ON THE NORTH SHORE, THE 70S ON THE SOUTH SHORE. THEN TOMORROW IT WILL BE A COUPLE OF DEGREES HOTTER THAN TODAY. HIGHS WILL BE ON EITHER SIDE OF 93 DEGREES AND WE ONLY HAVE A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN TOMORROW. THAT DOES GO BACK UP TO 40% ON MONDAY. AND WE DO NEED THE RAIN. LOOK AT THE DROUGHT MONITOR NOW. THE NORTH SHORE ALSO INCLUDED IN THAT ABNORMALLY DRY RATING. AND WHEN IT COMES TO RAINFALL TOTALS, SO FAR THIS YEAR, WE ARE BELOW AVERAGE BY ALMOST 11IN ALREADY FOR THIS MONTH, WE’RE BELOW NORMAL BY ABOUT HALF AN INCH. SO WE NEED THE RAIN TODAY. WE HAVE THAT 40% CHANCE TOMORROW, ONLY 20%. BUT IT GOES BACK U
