A Hamtramck teenager drowned at Camp Dearborn in Milford Monday, prompting a closure of the public beach, police said.

The victim, 17-year-old Alhasan Dahbali of Hamtramck, was reported missing shortly after 1 p.m., the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday. The victim's body was found at 2:53 p.m. in six feet of water about 30 feet from the shore, the Sheriff's Office said. Dahbali was pronounced dead at the scene.

Divers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, and other members of the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, including divers from Genesee, Livingston and Wayne Counties, Michigan State police and divers from the Huron-Clinton Metro Parks responded to the scene, police said.

The camp's public beach is closed until further notice, the Camp Dearborn Facebook page posted Monday afternoon.
