    Public beach at Camp Dearborn closed after 17-year-old Hamtramck boy drowns while swimming

    MILFORD (WWJ) — A teenager from Hamtramck drowned while swimming at the public beach in Milford Township on Monday afternoon.

    The 17-year-old boy was reported missing around 1 p.m. when the people he was with couldn’t find him, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

    Divers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, along with other members of the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, were called to the park, located off General Motors Road, just west of Milford.

    Divers found the teen's body around 2:50 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    No other circumstances surrounding the drowning have been released.

    Camp Dearborn officials on Facebook said the public beach will be closed until further notice.
