HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A 19-year-old has died after being shot inside a residence on Rotherham Lane in Hampton Thursday afternoon, Hampton Police said.

Police responded to the 1st block of Rotherham Lane after Public Safety Communications received a call at around 3:37 p.m. in reference to a shooting that had taken place there.

When officers arrived, police said they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.

Police later identified the victim as 19-year-old William Hedgepath Jr. Police also said in an update that the shooting is now being investigated as a homicide.
