Memorial Day crowds kick off first major weekend for Hampton Beach businesses
The weather for Memorial Day in New England can be hit or miss, so getting such incredible weather early on in the season is pretty lucky.
Jared Haas is from New York but this Memorial Day, he joined in on his friends' annual beach trip to New Hampshire.
"We've been here for a few hours, hoping to go up and down the boardwalk for some time, and just enjoy fun in the sun," Haas said.
Visitors like Haas are welcome guests after a long winter without much business.
"What's nice is with all the things we're doing, people are coming from a lot further away than they used to," said Chuck Rage, owner of Pelham Resort.
This was the first big weekend for businesses, setting the tone for summer.
The beach was packed, and so was the boardwalk and all the restaurants.
Businesses said they've been getting ready for this day. Especially in the years after COVID-19, seeing larger crowds is a huge boost.
So far, Hampton police told News 9 they did call in help from some surrounding towns, but so far, there haven’t been major problems.
“Nothing, nothing crazy. Nothing out of the ordinary typical disorderly conduct, alcohol-related matters, but nothing out of the ordinary,” said Hampton police Capt. Anthony Azarian. “Nothing that we don't deal with, as we approach the summer season."
The weather isn't supposed to be quite as hot for Memorial Day, but businesses said they're still expecting more crowds.
