Explosive plays power Buford past Dacula in 8-AAAAAAA football
DACULA — Explosive plays fueled Buford on Friday and helped the Wolves stay unbeaten on their way to a 48-7 win over Dacula. After winning the Class AAAAAA title in 2025, the Wolves are looking to make another title run this year in Georgia’s largest classification. The explosiveness they demonstrated on offense against Dacula showed they have the weapons to do it. The Wolves (6-0, 2-0) had seven plays of 25 yards or more in the first half. But head coach Bryant Appling said for every great play, his team made an unnecessary mistake. He said the Wolves needed each of those explosive plays to make up for eight first half penalties for 90 yards, including three personal fouls. “We got the win, but it was sloppy,” Appling said. “After we made mistakes, we came back and made the plays we needed to make, to score or make a stop. We’re a resilient bunch. We just made some boneheaded plays at times. We looked special when we had to, but we didn’t look special the whole night.” After jumping ahead 17-0, Dacula (3-3,1-1) tried to keep the game close as sophomore quarterback R.J. Perry threw a perfect pass downfield to

Norcross football hands Peachtree Ridge first loss
NORCROSS — Amid the pouring rain signaling the arrival of a hurricane on the Gulf Coast, Norcross upset previously unbeaten Peachtree Ridge 20-6 in a Region 7-AAAAAAA football matchup on Friday. The Blue Devils improve to 4-3 and 2-1 in the region, while the Lions fall to 6-1 and 2-1. With Brookwood's upset of unbeaten North Gwinnett, Norcross and Peachtree Ridge join North, Brookwood and Parkview as teams with one loss atop the 7-AAAAAAA standings. “I’m lost for words," Norcross head coach Corey Richardson said of the upset win. “We did a great job preparing this week. I felt like it’s the 1-0 head coach’s mentality where it’s just, every game matters this time of year. And at the end of the day, my thing is finishing a four-quarter game, and we finally did that tonight.” Norcross got the game underway with a drive that ended with a missed field goal with 8:19 left to go in the first quarter. It quickly got the ball back when linebacker Eric Pitts III picked off Peachtree Ridge quarterback Zain Belfield with 6:18 left in the first quarter. Even then, the hosts were unable to capitalize. With 26 seconds remaining in the first
