HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested two more individuals with help from their new automated license plate readers.

An HCSO deputy arrested 25-year-old Jamal Bell late Saturday night. Police also arrested 19-year-old Kyra Wheat.

The deputy’s ALPR alerted him that a car he passed could be stolen, HCSO said. After confirming, the deputy attempted to stop the car, shortly after 11 p.m.

The sheriff’s deputy first spotted the car around Tunnel Boulevard. He attempted to stop the car on Wilcox Avenue. However, Bell then fled, heading east on Lightfoot Mill Road.

Bell lead police on a pursuit. The sheriff’s office said he did not obey traffic laws, drove without lights and reached speeds over 95 miles per hour. Additionally, they said Bell struck another vehicle with the stolen car on Bonny Oaks Drive.

The HCSO added that Bell’s car struck a building and the front push-bar of a patrol car. His car finally stopped after hitting a curb. But then, both Bell and Wheat, a passenger in the car, fled on foot.

Police said they found over 5 grams of marijuana, 36 Xanax bars, 8 grams of cocaine and over 19 grams of meth in Bell’s car.

They are charging Jamal Bell with the following.

  • Possession of a marijuana,
  • Possession of meth,

  • Possession of cocaine.

In addition, the sheriff’s office is charging Wheat with the following charges.
