A man with a stolen car and his female passenger were arrested Saturday after leading Hamilton County deputies on a chase, hitting other vehicles in the process, the sheriff's office says.
HCSO says a deputy was patrolling around Tunnel Boulevard when he was alerted by his in-car automated license plate reader that he had driven past a possible stolen vehicle.
The deputy pulled behind the vehicle after it came to a stop in a driveway near the 3300 block of Wilcox Avenue, HCSO says.
They say the suspect, 26-year-old Jamal Bell, then reversed the car towards the deputy’s patrol vehicle before turning around in the yard and heading east on Lightfoot Mill Road towards Bonny Oaks.
Bell eventually led law enforcement on a pursuit where HCSO says he failed to exercise due regard for traffic laws and the safety of other motorists, including driving without lights and speeds upwards 95 miles per hour.
HCSO says Bell also struck another vehicle on Bonny Oaks Drive during the pursuit just past Volkswagen Drive.
HCSO says Bell then continued to flee from deputies where he made contact with a building, struck the front push-bar of a deputy's patrol vehicle, and almost struck another HCSO Sergeant’s vehicle.
After eventually hitting a curb, HCSO says the vehicle came to a stop and Bell and female passenger fled, leading deputies on a short foot pursuit.
HCSO says both Bell and the female passenger were taken into custody.
HCSO says deputies then searched the vehicle and found 5.2 grams of Marijuana, (36) Xanax bars, 8 grams of Cocaine, and 19.2 grams of Methamphetamine.
The female passenger was identified as 20-year-old Kyra Wheat.
Both parties were transported to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center where HCSO says they were booked on numerous charges.
HCSO says Bell is charged with:
- Possession of a controlled substance x3.
- Theft of property.
- Possession of legend drugs without prescription.
- Evading arrest.
HCSO says Wheat is charged with:
- Possession of meth.
- Drug for resale.
- Possession of controlled substance.
- Possession of legend drugs without prescription.
