Sheriff: Hamilton County deputy died from medical emergency during police academy activities

CINCINNATI — A Hamilton County sheriff's deputy has died, Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey announced Saturday.

McGuffey announced that Deputy Marcus Zeigler's died on May 26. According to a press release from McGuffey's office, Zeigler was "participating in police academy activities when he experienced a medical emergency."

"It is with great sadness that Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey announces the death of Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputy Marcus Zeigler," the sheriff's office's statement said.

Zeigler had been with the sheriff's office for 9 months and he was enrolled at Great Oaks' Peace Officer Academy. He is survived by his wife and children.

A public visitation will be held on June 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Spring Grove Funeral Home. Immediately after, Zeigler will be honored with a police ceremony outside the funeral home.
