Indiana girls beat Kentucky at Junior All-Stars game

Three Hamilton County girls making big impact on their team

Hamilton County basketball players are so far making a big impact for the Indiana Junior All-Stars.

Both the girls and boys Junior All-Stars took on their Kentucky counterparts Sunday in games at Jeffersonville. The Indiana girls won 79-69; the Hoosier team led 23-16 after the first quarter. Kentucky cut that lead to 35-34 by halftime, but Indiana outscored Kentucky 44-35 in the second half.

Three county girls played for Indiana. Fishers’ Talia Harris scored six points and collected four rebounds, Westfield’s Ellie Kelleher grabbed five rebounds and scored three points, and Noblesville’s Reagan Wilson pulled eight rebounds while scoring two points.

The Kentucky boys beat Indiana 106-92. University’s Sabien Cain scored 15 points (one of four reaching double figures) and pulled four rebounds. Indiana led 57-48 at halftime, but Kentucky outscored the Hoosier team 58-35 in the second half.

Juniors dominate

On Tuesday, the Indiana Junior teams played the Senior All-Stars in girls and boys games at Cathedral.

The girls went first, and the Junior team overwhelmed the Senior team 102-75. The Seniors led 20-19 after one quarter, but the Juniors blasted through the second period 29-13, then poured in another 54 points in the second half.

The Juniors had five players scored in double digits, including Hamilton Heights’ Camryn Runner, who had 12 points. Runner drained three 3-pointers. Wilson added eight points, including two triples. As a team, the Juniors made 18 of 39 3-point attempts. Runner also had four rebounds and Wilson dished out five assists.

Hamilton Southeastern’s Riley Makalusky played for the Senior All-Stars, scoring 10 points and collecting four rebounds.

In the boys game, the Junior All-Stars beat the Senior All-Stars 105-100. The Seniors led 45-43 at halftime before the Juniors poured in 62 points in the second half.

Two county boys played on the Junior All-Stars team: Noblesville’s Aaron Fine and Westfield’s Trey Buchanan. Both scored three points. Noblesville’s Luke Almodovar played on the Senior All-Stars team, scoring seven points.

The Indiana Senior All-Stars will take on the Kentucky All-Stars this weekend in a two-game series. The first games will be played Friday at the Owensboro Sportscenter, with the girls game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys to follow, at around 8:30 p.m. The second game takes place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, starting with the Futures Games: Girls at noon, boys at 2 p.m. The Senior girls will play at 5 p.m., with the Senior boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
