Hamburg, NY (WBEN) - In the Town of Hamburg, there was a flap over the weekend over a POW-MIA flag that disappeared from town hall.

Hamburg Supervisor Randy Hoak tells WBEN the flag was replaced.

Hoak says the flag was replaced at the same time the Pride flag was hoisted Friday. "While that may have appeared to be true, the reality is that this flag was noticed to be in torn and tattered condition at our pride flag raising ceremony on Friday," says Hoak. He says the flag was removed from the pole and given to the town clerk to be properly disposed of.

Hoak says the town was able to get a replacement today. "We returned the POW-MIA flag to its rightful place on the flagpole in front of town hall, below the American flag," notes Hoak.

Hoak says the complaints were certainly varied. "We didn't have plenty of people who were very concerned about the absence of the POW-MIA flag. And I've been telling residents of Hamburg, and I think it's important for residents of Hamburg and across Erie County to know, that it was by no means meant to be an insult to veterans, to folks who gave sacrifice on a battlefield, and certainly not to our prisoners of war. We have been able to rectify that situation," notes Hoak.
