Sixth grader brings gun to school
Administrators at Lara Kendall Elementary School were notified last Monday that a sixth grade student possibly had brought a loaded gun to school in his backpack. When the child entered the school he was met by school officials and the gun was taken. He was taken to McDowell Center for Children in Dyersburg where he was released to his parents.

Police investigating after pedestrian seriously injured in hit-and-run
CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (KFVS) - Police are investigating after a pedestrian was injured during a hit-and-run collision on Saturday. According to the Caruthersville Police Department, on May 25, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and the driver fled the scene. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian with numerous injuries lying on the shoulder of the roadway.

Amtrak Completes $3.5M in Upgrades at Newbern-Dyersburg Station
NEWBERN, Tenn. – Amtrak has completed $3.5 million in upgrades at its Newbern-Dyersburg Station in West Tennessee. Crews installed a 350-foot platform to allow for a safer and smoother boarding process for those with disabilities. According to the release, it integrates the Newbern Depot & Railroad Museum, an Amtrak waiting room, and a grand room for public functions. Additionally, local sub-contractors worked on accessible parking, public right-of-way access with sloped accessible walkways and safety barriers, and energy-efficient LED light fixtures.
