The annual St. Mary’s Catholic Church Picnic takes place Sunday at the church’s grounds located at 1648 FM 340, just west of Hallettsville.

The picnic begins with a celebration of the mass at 9:15 a.m., followed by a day filled with all types of activities.

Dinner service starts at 10:30 a.m. with their traditional meal of St. Mary’s stew and sausage served up with German-style potatoes, green beans, sauerkraut, pickles, bread, and a dessert. You can dine inside the air-conditioned hall or pick up to-go plates at a cost of $12 per plate.

Also beginning at 10:30 a.m., the Texas Sound Czech Band will kick off the day’s entertainment lineup, followed by the Czech Wine Stompers 2 p.m. and The Red Ravens, who will provide the entertainment from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

The auction starts at 1 p.m., featuring antiques, handmade quilts, arts and crafts, livestock, home decor items, plants, and other items for sale.

A country store will be available throughout the day offering items such as homemade canned goods, crafts, fresh vegetables, and other homemade goodies, like homemade kolaches.

Bingo takes place from noon until 4 p.m.

Other games are offered for every age, including a plant and cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, fishpond, a bounce house, and train rides.

Ice cold soft drinks and beer, as well as hamburgers, kolaches, snow cones, popcorn, ice cream, cotton candy and nachos will be served throughout the event as well.

The day promises to have all sorts of fun things to do, and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day under the shade trees at the St. Mary’s picnic grounds.
