The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Lieutenant Shane Guyant:

On Thursday Deputy D. Bybee was patrolling in the south Weldon area when he attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation.

The driver, later identified as Tevonshe Jamarri Brown, refused to stop and a pursuit ensued for several miles until reaching Ransom Circle.

Brown, 30, of Graham, fled from the vehicle.

Deputies and Sheriff Tyree Davis searched for Brown and found him hiding in a ditch near Elm Street and Country Club Road.

Brown had outstanding Alamance County warrants for felony sex offense, possession of a firearm by a felon, and going armed to the terror of the public.

Bybee charged him with fleeing to elude arrest, driving while license revoked and a window tint violation.

Brown received a $218,000 bond and June 26 court date.

Also on Thursday Bybee conducted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 158 near Kitchen Street for a window tint violation.

Bybee also had prior knowledge that the registered owner, Kelsey Jaivon Parker, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, had a suspended driver’s license.

Parker exited the vehicle with a handgun and refused numerous commands over a period of several minutes to drop the weapon.

Parker made his way to a porch area of a nearby residence and gave the weapon to an occupant.

Upon his arrest Parker struggled with Bybee, who sustained minor injuries. Roanoke Rapids police and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted Bybee in taking Parker into custody.

Parker, who was uninjured, was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer causing physical injury, driving while license revoked, and resist, obstruct, or delay a public officer.

The firearm was later seized by law enforcement and Parker was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.

He has a June 26 court date.
