Student hit by car getting off the bus in Halifax County back at home

WARREN COUNTY, N.C. — The Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School announced Tuesday the student hit by a car getting off the bus in Halifax County March 15 is back at home.

According to Melissa Richardson with HSTS, Tillman Mitchell, 17, was released from the hospital Monday.

Mitchell was hit by a car while getting off the bus the afternoon of March 15 and was in the hospital in critical condition.

The school said they will also hold a day to honor Mitchell, called "Tillman Day."

The school said Tillman Day will be held Saturday, March 25 in the school cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will have many events, including a bake sale and carwash.
