70-year-old man accused of molesting young family member decades ago in Half Moon Bay
REDWOOD CITY -- A 70-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a child family member repeatedly three decades ago in Half Moon Bay, authorities said Wednesday.The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Manuel Cortes of San Francisco. The investigation began in June 2022 and involved a child under 14 years old.The sheriff's office said the sexual assaults happened over a span of three years.After a year-long investigation, sheriff's detectives obtained a no-bail arrest warrant for Cortes and Tuesday, he was arrested in San Francisco, the sheriff's office said.Cortes was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. The sheriff's office said because the assaults occurred approximately 30 years ago, it is unknown if there are other unidentified victims.Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact Det. A wrongful death lawsuit is being brought on behalf of 7-year-old twin girls whose parents were killed in a crash caused by street racing. A family of four -- parents and the twins -- were driving home from the girls' grandmother's house shortly before Christmas last year when they were struck by a car moving 100 mph, killing both parents, Gregory Ammen and Grace Spiridon, instantly. They were less than 10 minutes away from their San Carlos home at the time of the crash.

Man Arrested for Armed Robbery and Multiple Auto Burglaries in Palo Alto, CA
On April 15, 2022, police received a report of an armed robbery in the 900 block of Bryant Street. According to the investigation, two suspects in a black two-door vehicle approached a man in his thirties. One of the suspects pointed a pistol at the victim, while the other remained in the car holding a handgun. The suspects demanded the victim's property and fled with his wristwatch. The child who was in the victim's vehicle during the crime was unharmed.

Update: A San Leandro man accused of pointing a loaded crossbow at two BART workers and threatening to kill at least one of them was arrested last week, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Thursday. 41-year-old Daniel Ray Baxter faces charges on two counts of making criminal threats and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. According to authorities, the man allegedly pointed the weapon at one of the workers and said, “I’ll kill you.” Both workers barricaded themselves in the train operator’s cab and called BART police. When officers arrived, they found Baxter lying on the floor of one of the cars. He admitted he was the person they were looking for and was subsequently issued an order banning him from BART and booked into jail. Baxter appeared in San Mateo County Superior Court in Redwood City on Thursday for a preliminary hearing via the San Francisco Chronicle. His attorney presented no evidence, and Judge Sean Dabel sent the case to trial. Baxter will appear in court next on June 22. He continues to be held in San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

On June 6, 2023, Michael Robillard received a 27-year-to-life prison sentence for leading officers on a wild chase in a stolen car, which was also connected to a robbery spree, and attempting to escape custody while being transported to a medical checkup, according to KTVU reporter Henry K.
