HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Folks in Hagerstown know how to beat the sweltering heat wave settling in.

The Potterfield Community Pool, run by the city’s Parks & Recreation Department and the Hagerstown YMCA, was packed with swimmers on Friday for some serious family fun rolling into the humid weekend.

Boonsboro third-grader DJ said that this pool is the secret to beating the high temperatures and humidity.

“There’s a slide and the water’s cool and you can get refreshed,” he said.

For Alex Madrano and his daughter, Vanessa, there is no better way to start a sweltering weekend.

“There’s the slide, everything’s ready to go,” Madrano said. “Is Vanessa excited for the pool? You bet! We’re going to enjoy it all summer.”

Hagerstown has 22 parks in the city but “this is definitely one of our showcases,” explained Amy Riley with the city. “Especially in the summer, families come out to cool off and we’ll have a great crowd over the next week with these high temperatures.”

Ask seventh grader Jabari poolside if he has time for a chat.

“I’ve got to get back in the pool before it gets colder,” Jabari said. “I’ve got to get used to the pool.”

Potterfield is open seven days a week through Labor Day.
